Embracing Our Inner Maiden – Freedom, Boldness, and Forgiving Ourselves

"Even after all this time the sun never says to the earth, 'You owe me.' Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky." – Rumi

Ah, the Maiden years – that shimmering time of life when we’ve danced with wild abandon, spoken without filters, leapt without looking, and felt like the world was vast and the rules were mostly optional. We were untamed, free, and deliciously human, embodying the perfect imperfect. For every wrong person we kissed, every ill-timed word, every spontaneous “yes” that perhaps should’ve been “no” – it was all part of our becoming.

But as the years unfurl, we sometimes look back on those decisions with too much harshness. We pick apart the choices, the wildness, the laughter, and label them as mistakes. What if, instead, we held them with the same love the sun offers the earth, unconditionally, without expectation or judgment?

Our Imperfect, Beautiful Selves

Each moment, mistake, and messy chapter from those years shapes who we are now. Like the sun’s warmth, which simply gives, we can learn to offer kindness to every past version of ourselves. Just like the sun illuminates the earth without asking for anything in return, can we extend that same love to ourselves? Let’s shed that unnecessary weight of judgment, burn away the lingering self-criticism, and embrace every piece of who we’ve been.

Imagine the gift of hindsight as a tool, not for regret but for compassion. Each “oops,” each “too much,” each foot in the mouth is a note in the song of who we are. After all, with time comes wisdom – the kind that fills our bucket lists with “get over it already” moments and guides us toward living freely in our true essence.

Reflect on Your Maiden Spirit

  • Who were you during your most carefree moments? What did those times feel like, and what part of that version of you do you still carry within?

  • What would you tell your younger self if you could meet her today? Consider how you could embrace her, laugh with her, and love her for all she was.

  • What “mistakes” have become beautiful lessons? How have they shaped you in ways you can now appreciate?

Spell of Sunlit Self-Forgiveness

Ingredients:

  • A sunny, safe spot outdoors

  • A small stone or crystal to hold your intentions

  • A journal and pen

  • A warm blanket to sit on

The Ritual:

  1. Find Your Sun – Choose a place in the sunlight, somewhere you can feel the warmth on your skin. Lay out your blanket, sit comfortably, and close your eyes for a moment. Feel the sun’s rays touch your face, your shoulders, your heart. Imagine this light as a warm embrace, holding you in unconditional love.

  2. Hold Your Stone – With your chosen stone in hand, close your eyes and breathe deeply. With each breath, imagine yourself letting go of the judgments you hold against your younger self. Whisper, “Just as the sun gives freely to the earth, I give kindness to every version of myself.”

  3. Speak the Spell – Say aloud or silently, “With this light, I release the weight of past mistakes.
I embrace every lesson, every laugh, every tear.
I am complete, just as I am.”

  4. Write and Reflect – Open your journal, and write whatever comes to mind. Let this moment be free of editing or judgment. Perhaps jot down some of your favorite memories from the past – the moments of “too muchness,” the dancing, the laughing, the wild heart. Allow yourself to smile at the sweetness of each memory.

  5. Ground in Nature’s Embrace – Lie down on your blanket and feel the sun’s warmth on your skin. Imagine the sun’s energy filling you with a golden glow, a reminder that you are perfect as you are. Let it burn away any lingering harshness, self-criticism, or regret. With each exhale, feel lighter, freer, whole.

  6. Closing the Spell – Hold your stone to your heart and whisper, “I forgive, I love, I release. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Remember, each chapter, each choice, and each so-called “mistake” was a step in your becoming. Embrace every piece, for they are all part of the masterpiece that is you. And just like the sun that lights up the sky without expectation, may you shine your love on yourself – past, present, and future.
